The Middle Magdalena Valley is the most explored basin in Colombia and is still one of the most prolific. 51 oil fields have been discovered in Cenozoic sediments. However, there are still unexplored opportunities related to Cretaceous carbonates. Besides, stratigraphic traps of the upper Miocene-Eocene such as onlaps, incision valleys and truncations may represent important exploratory targets.
The exploration potential of the Middle Magdalena Valley Basin is estimated between 8000 MBO (high) and 600 MBO (low).
