The recently obtained geochemical data from the Cauca- Patía Basin samples indicate the presence of rocks with enough potential to produce hydrocarbons. This conclusion is supported by the occurrence of two oil seeps in the southern part of the Patía sub-basin and by the presence numerous sandstone layers and conglomerates with good reservoir characteristics, deposited during late Paleocene to middle Miocene times. Similarly, there are favorable geometries for hydrocarbons accumulation, such as fault propagation folds, stratigraphic wedging and lateral closures against normal and inverse faults.

Besides, there is an additional exploration opportunity related to the presence of coal in Guachinte Formation, and the possibility of methane gas associated to these deposits.
